In the Old Testament I read that David wanted to build a house of the Lord. At first Nathan approves and tells him to go ahead, but then the Lord tells him to tell David that he should not build it but that after his death, his son will build it. 1 Chr. 17: 1-4, 11-12 "Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the Lord remaineth under curtains. Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee. And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying, Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the Lord, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in: And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever."
In the D&C we're told to be patient in tribulations and seek after the Lord, for the Lord will come quickly and reward us and we'll find rest to our souls. D&C 54: 10 "And again, be patient in tribulation until I come; and, behold, I come quickly, and my reward is with me, and they who have sought me early shall find rest to their souls. Even so. Amen."
Some verses from a thought booklet tell us some qualities and traits we need which will help us enter into the Kingdom of God. And if we're lacking in these, it means we've forgotten that we're purged from our old sins. Some of these qualities are: faith, virtue, knowledge, godliness, brotherly kindness, and charity. We need to put these things into practice in our lives. 2 Pet. 1: 4-11 "Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ."
