In the Old Testament I read that David reigned over all Isreal with justice. 1 Chronicles 18:14 "So David reigned over all Israel, and executed judgment and justice among all his people."
In the D&C I read that if we must be compelled in all things, we're a slothful servant. It isn't meet that the Lord needs to command in all things, but we should be willing to do whatever we can to help others and be anxiously engaged in good things of our own free will. We shouldn't wait until we're commanded, and then keep the commandments with slothfulness. If we do that, we'll lose our reward. D&C 58: 26-29 "For behold, it is not meet that I should command in all things; for he that is compelled in all things, the same is a slothful and not a wise servant; wherefore he receiveth no reward. Verily I say, men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness;8 For the power is in them, wherein they are agents unto themselves. And inasmuch as men do good they shall in nowise lose their reward. But he that doeth not anything until he is commanded, and receiveth a commandment with doubtful heart, and keepeth it with slothfulness, the same is damned."
A verse with a thought booklet tells us that the Lord can change our hearts, making our hard, stony hearts flesh and putting a new spirit within us. If there are things about ourselves we're having trouble changing, we can turn the problem over to the Lord and allow Him to bring about the change in us. Ezek. 36: 26 "A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh."
