Daily Thoughts

In the Old Testament we're told that a man who commits adultery lacks understanding because he destroys his own soul. You can't walk on hot coals and not burn your feet, and you can't touch your neighbor's wife and be innocent. Prov. 6: 27-29, 32-33 "Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent. But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul. A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away."

In the Book of Mormon I read about how Enos turned to the Lord and was forgiven of his sins, through faith in Jesus Christ. I'm always amazed about how he prayed all day and then continued on into the night. I remember one time trying to pray for one hour. It wasn't an easy task. I thanked the Lord for everything I could think of to thank Him for and then started praying for everyone I knew, one by one. But when I peaked at my watch, the hour was far from over. I cannot imagine how a person could pray all day and all night like that. But it seems to have brought miraculous results to Enos, as he had a total change of heart and an assurance that his sins were swept away, through faith in Jesus Christ. Enos 1: 2-8 "And I will tell you of the wrestle which I had before God, before I received a remission of my sins. Behold, I went to hunt beasts in the forests; and the words which I had often heard my father speak concerning eternal life, and the joy of the saints, sunk deep into my heart. And my soul hungered; and I kneeled down before my Maker, and I cried unto him in mighty prayer and supplication for mine own soul; and all the day long did I cry unto him; yea, and when the night came I did still raise my voice high that it reached the heavens. And there came a voice unto me, saying: Enos, thy sins are forgiven thee, and thou shalt be blessed. And I, Enos, knew that God could not lie; wherefore, my guilt was swept away. And I said: Lord, how is it done? And he said unto me: Because of thy faith in Christ, whom thou hast never before heard nor seen. And many years pass away before he shall manifest himself in the flesh; wherefore, go to, thy faith hath made thee whole."

A verse with a thought booklet tells us we should never be lacking in zeal, but keep our spiritual fervor in serving the Lord. When we're given a calling in church or asked to serve in some way, do we react with less than enthusism sometimes? This should not be! We should willingly serve wherever we're called and do so with an attitude of excitement. If we'll turn to the Lord for help, He'll strengthen us and give us the abilities we need to be up to the task. Rom. 12: 11 "Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;"
