In the Old Testament I read that we need to seek the Lord and call upon Him while He is near and can be found. Isa. 55:6 "Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:"
In the Book of Mormon we learn that the Lord came to redeem people FROM their sins, not IN their sins. In other words, we need to repent and turn from our sins in order to be redeemed. We can't continue in our sins and expect to be forgiven. We need to build upon the sure foundation of Christ. If we do this, even though the devil might send forth winds and mighty storms to beat upon us in his attempts to drag us down to misery and endless wo, we will not fall as long as we're built upon that sure foundation of Christ. Hel. 5: 10-12 "And remember also the words which Amulek spake unto Zeezrom, in the city of Ammonihah; for he said unto him that the Lord surely should come to redeem his people, but that he should not come to redeem them in their sins, but to redeem them from their sins. And he hath power given unto him from the Father to redeem them from their sins because of repentance; therefore he hath sent his angels to declare the tidings of the conditions of repentance, which bringeth unto the power of the Redeemer, unto the salvation of their souls. And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall."
Some verses with a thought booklet tells us that when we do kind things to the least of our brethren, we do them unto Christ. When we feed the hungry and clothe the naked, we are serving the Lord, and will be rewarded accordingly. Matt. 25: 34-40 "Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
