Daily Thoughts

In the Old Testament I read how the Lord commanded the people to keep the Sabbath Day holy, to carry no burdens and do no work on that day. However, the people did not listen or obey, but were stiffnecked and refused to receive instruction. Jer. 17: 21-23 "Thus saith the Lord; Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem; Neither carry forth a burden out of your houses on the sabbath day, neither do ye any work, but hallow ye the sabbath day, as I commanded your fathers. But they obeyed not, neither inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear, nor receive instruction."

In the Book of Mormon I read that Wo will be unto those who will not hearken to the word of the Lord nor the words of His servants. When the Lord speaks, we need to listen! 3 Ne. 28: 34 "And wo be unto him that will not hearken unto the words of Jesus, and also to them whom he hath chosen and sent among them; for whoso receiveth not the words of Jesus and the words of those whom he hath sent receiveth not him; and therefore he will not receive them at the last day;"

Some verses with a thought booklet tell us that the day of the Lord will come, as a thief in the night. We may sometimes think that the Lord is slack in His coming. But He is not slack, He's long suffering, giving everyone a chance to repent because He doesn't want anyone to perish. His promises will be fulfilled in His own due time. But to him a thousand years is as one day. 2 Pet. 3: 8-10 "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up."
