Daily Thoughts

In the Old Testament I read about how the Lord would cleanse the people from their filthiness and idols. He would put a new spirit and heart into them, to replace their stony heart, and they would keep His commandments and judgments to do them. They would be His people and He would be their God. If we have sin and evil in our lives, we need to turn to the Lord to cleanse this from us and make us into the new people we are supposed to be.  When we try to make these changes on our own, we often fail--but if we turn it over to the Lord, He can help us do things that are impossible for us to do without His help.  He can make us new people!  Ezek. 36:25-29 "Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God. I will also save you from all your uncleannesses: and I will call for the corn, and will increase it, and lay no famine upon you."

In the D&C I read that we need to do the labors that have been appointed to us and serve with all faithfulness. The Lord is not pleased with idlers or those who don't seek earnestly for the riches of eternity. D&C 68: 30-31 "And the inhabitants of Zion also shall remember their labors, inasmuch as they are appointed to labor, in all faithfulness; for the idler shall be had in remembrance before the Lord. Now, I, the Lord, am not well pleased with the inhabitants of Zion, for there are idlers among them; and their children are also growing up in wickedness; they also seek not earnestly the riches of eternity, but their eyes are full of greediness."

Some scriptures with a thought booklet tell us that if we ask God, it will be given to us. Just like an earthly father wants to give good gifts to his children, so does our Heavenly Father want to bless us. We just need to ask in prayer. Luke 11: 9-13 "And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?"
