Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon I read about Nephi's vision of the great destruction that would come upon the land right before Jesus Christ would come down and show Himself to the people. This would occur after the resurrection of Christ, when Christ came to the American continent and showed Himself to the Nephites. 1 Ne. 12: 4-6 "And it came to pass that I saw a mist of darkness on the face of the land of promise; and I saw lightnings, and I heard thunderings, and earthquakes, and all manner of tumultuous noises; and I saw the earth and the rocks, that they rent; and I saw mountains tumbling into pieces; and I saw the plains of the earth, that they were broken up; and I saw many cities that they were sunk; and I saw many that they were burned with fire; and I saw many that did tumble to the earth, because of the quaking thereof. And it came to pass after I saw these things, I saw the vapor of darkness, that it passed from off the face of the earth; and behold, I saw multitudes who had not fallen because of the great and terrible judgments of the Lord. And I saw the heavens open, and the Lamb of God descending out of heaven; and he came down and showed himself unto them."

In the New Testament I read a couple of verses that give us insight into the childhood of Jesus. Not much is known about His growing up years, but we are told that as He grew physically, He waxed strong in spirit, was filled with wisdom and grace, and increased in favor with God and man. Luke 2:40, 52 "And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him. And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man."

Some verses with a thought booklet tell us to love our neighbor as ourself and not try to take revenge or hold grudges against other people. Even though we may reprove a neighbor and not tolerate his sin, we don't need to hate him. Leviticus 19:17-18 "Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him. Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the Lord."
