In the Book of Mormon we read about how the Lord gave Lehi the Liahona--a round ball of curious workmanship which pointed the way for them to go. What will prove interesting is that it will only work when they are doing what's right. This is like the Holy Ghost that we all have. It points us in the direction we should go, but only when we're living our lives in such a way that we are in tune with the Lord. 1 Ne. 16: 10 "And it came to pass that as my father arose in the morning, and went forth to the tent door, to his great astonishment he beheld upon the ground a round ball of curious workmanship; and it was of fine brass. And within the ball were two spindles; and the one pointed the way whither we should go into the wilderness."
In the New Testament we're told to beware of scribes who walk with long robes, take the highest seats of honor, and make a show of saying lengthy prayers while taking advantage of poor widows. In other words, prideful people who make a show of being important while they are unkind to others will stand condemned before God. Luke 20: 46-47 "Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;Which devour widows' houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation."
Some verses with a thought booklet tell us that whoever commits sin is of the devil because anyone who has been born of God will be righteouss and love other people. So it's pretty plain to tell the righteous from the wicked--we'll be able to tell by how they act. 1 John 3:7-10 "Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother."
