In the Book of Mormon we're told that those who are lifted up in pride stumble. And false churches can provide stumbling blocks when they preach their own wisdom and discount the miracles of God, seeking after gain. 2 Ne. 26: 20 "And the Gentiles are lifted up in the pride of their eyes, and have stumbled, because of the greatness of their stumbling block, that they have built up many churches; nevertheless, they put down the power and miracles of God, and preach up unto themselves their own wisdom and their own learning, that they may get gain and grind upon the face of the poor."
In the New Testament we're admonished to not be so selfish. Instead of only looking out for ourselves and things that concern us, we need to also look on the things that concern others. Philippians 2:4 "Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others."
Some verses with a thought booklet tell us that if we seek, we'll find and if we knock, it will be opened unto us. Prayers truly are answered! They're not always answered the way we want, but they are always answered in the way that's best for us. Matthew 7:7-8 "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened."
