In the Book of Mormon I read that those who were unfaithful did not prosper or progress, and they were smitten with sore afflictions to stir them up in remembrance of their duty. Mosiah 1:17 "Therefore, as they were unfaithful they did not prosper nor progress in their journey, but were driven back, and incurred the displeasure of God upon them; and therefore they were smitten with famine and sore afflictions, to stir them up in remembrance of their duty"
In the New Testament we read that the mysteries of God have been declared to His servants, the prophets. Revelation 10:7 "But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets."
A verse with a thought booklet tells us that as children of God, we can overcome because the One who is in us is grater than he that is in the world. God is more powerful than the world or anything in it, and with Him on our side, we can overcome anything. We have nothing to fear. 1 John 4:4 "Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world."
