In the Book of Mormon I read that after Sherem died, peace was again restored among the people and the love of God abounded. The people returned to studying the scriptures instead of listening to that wicked man. Jacob 7:23 "And it came to pass that peace and the love of God was restored again among the people; and they searched the scriptures, and hearkened no more to the words of this wicked man."
In the New Testament we're told to draw near to the Lord and He will draw near to us. We need to cleanse our hands and purify our hearts and submit ourselves to God. If we resist the devil, he will flee from us. James 4:7-8 "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded."
Some verses with a thought booklet tell us that we should be content with what we have rather than covet what other people have. The Lord will be our helper and will never leave us nor forsake us, so we should not fear what man can do to us. We have much to be thankful for--our family, health, food to eat, and life itself are all precious gifts to be grateful for. We don't know what the future holds and we may go through difficult times, but we can be assured that God will give us His continuous love and care. He is our helper in this perilous life. Hebrews 13:5-6 "Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me."
