Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon I read that we an lift our our heads and rejoice as we put our trust in God. Just as God brought the children of Israel out of Egypt and caused the Red Sea to part for them and fed them manna in the wilderness, so can we trust that He will help us through whatever we have to go through also. Mosiah 7:19 "Therefore, lift up your heads, and rejoice, and put your trust in God, in that God who was the God of Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob; and also, that God who brought the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt, and caused that they should walk through the Red Sea on dry ground, and fed them with manna that they might not perish in the wilderness; and many more things did he do for them."

In the Old Testament I read that the people decided to build a tower to reach heaven, thinking that if another flood came they could save themselves. But the Lord was not pleased with this and confounded their language so they were scattered over all the earth. Genesis 11:1-9 "And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth."

Some scriptures with a thought booklet tell us that we need to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts and live righteously. If we do this, we can look forward with blessed hope to the appearing of Jesus Christ, who atoned for our sins and redeemed us from all iniquity. He provided the way for us to repent of our sins and to be forgiven--to become His people, eager to do good. Titus 2:11-14 "For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works."
