In the Book of Mormon we're given a sad description of how people often are. The Lord is long suffering toward them and seeks after them the way a loving shepherd watches over his sheep. But the people are blind when it comes to understanding this and instead of seeking after the wisdom of the Lord, they run away from the protection of the Lord like a wild flock, and in their scattered condition they are devoured. There is great safety in staying close to the Lord. Mosiah 8:20-21 "O how marvelous are the works of the Lord, and how long doth he suffer with his people; yea, and how blind and impenetrable are the understandings of the children of men; for they will not seek wisdom, neither do they desire that she should rule over them! Yea, they are as a wild flock which fleeth from the shepherd, and scattereth, and are driven, and are devoured by the beasts of the forest."
In the Old Testament we read that the Lord blessed Abram greatly, giving him the land as far as he could see and telling him that he would have seed as numerous as the dust of the earth. Genesis 13: 14-17 "But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly. And the Lord said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered. Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee."
A verse with a thought booklet reminds us that we can cast all our cares upon the Lord, for He cares for us. How comforting this is! 1 Peter 5:7 "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."
