In the Book of Mormon I read about the vanity of seeking after the riches of the world, which cannot be carried with us and are of no eternal value. Alma 39:14 "Seek not after riches nor the vain things of this world; for behold, you cannot carry them with you."
In the Old Testament I read that because Moses had trespassed against the Lord, he would be able to see the promised land before him, but would not be allowed to enter into it. Deuteronomy 32:51-52 "Because ye trespassed against me among the children of Israel at the waters of Meribah-Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because ye sanctified me not in the midst of the children of Israel. Yet thou shalt see the land before thee; but thou shalt not go thither unto the land which I give the children of Israel."
A verse with a thought booklet warns us that above all else we need to guard our hearts, because everything we do flows from it. One of the best ways to protect our hearts is to make sure that they are filled with love--love for God and love for others. If we truly have love in our hearts, our actions will follow. Proverbs 4:23 "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life."
