In the Book of Mormon I read that that God would preserve and keep the people as long as they were faithful to Him. But if they should deny the faith and fall into transgression, they would be destroyed. Alma 44:4 "Now ye see that this is the true faith of God; yea, ye see that God will support, and keep, and preserve us, so long as we are faithful unto him, and unto our faith, and our religion; and never will the Lord suffer that we shall be destroyed except we should fall into transgression and deny our faith."
In the Old Testament we read about the faithfulness of Caleb. At the age of 40 he was sent to spy out the land and came back with a report that they could conquer wit the Lord's help. However, the other spies had reports that made the people's hearts melt and they were afraid to try to go forth against the inhabitants of the land. So they wandered in the wilderness for 40 years. But the Lord blessed Caleb for his faithfulness and even at the age of 85 he was strong. Joshua blessed him and gave him a land for his inheritance. Joshua 14:7-14 " Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh-barnea to espy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart. Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the Lord my God. And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children's for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the Lord my God. And now, behold, the Lord hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the Lord spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old. As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in. Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the Lord spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the Lord will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the Lord said. And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance.
Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he wholly followed the Lord God of Israel."
In a verse with a thought booklet I read that when we wait upon the Lord, He will strengthen us so we can run and not be weary and walk and not faint--we'll feel like we've been mounted with the wings of eagles. The Lord can give us the strength to do whatever it is we need to do. Isaiah 40:31 "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
