In the D&C we read about the conditions of the world at the time of the second coming of Christ. There will be wars and rumors of wars, iniquity will abound, and the love of many will wax cold. Many will say that the Lord delays His coming. It sounds a lot like a description of the world we live in today. D&C 45:26-27 "And in that day shall be heard of wars and rumors of wars, and the whole earth shall be in commotion, and men's hearts shall fail them, and they shall say that Christ delayeth his coming until the end of the earth. And the love of men shall wax cold, and iniquity shall abound."
In the Old Testament we read about the great destructions that will come upon the wicked before Christ comes again. Men will greatly fear and their hearts will melt, as the proud and haughty are humbled and the sinners are destroyed. Now is the time for us all to repent of our sins before this terrible day arrives, as it surely shall. Isaiah 13:6-16 "Howl ye; for the day of the Lord is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty. Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man's heart shall melt: And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames. Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it. For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine. And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir. Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the Lord of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger. And it shall be as the chased roe, and as a sheep that no man taketh up: they shall every man turn to his own people, and flee every one into his own land. Every one that is found shall be thrust through; and every one that is joined unto them shall fall by the sword. Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished."
In some scriptures from a thought booklet we read a phrase that would actually be helpful if we memorized it and repeated it to ourselves when we are going through problems and trials. "Fear not, for I am with thee." We have no need to fear, no matter what we pass through, because God is with us. He doesn't promise that we won't have tribulations, but He has promised that He will be with us as we go through them. What a great comfort this is! Isaiah 43:5 "Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west;"
