Daily Thoughts

In the D&C we read that the idler should not have place in the church unless he repents and mends his ways.  We all need to be diligent and provide for our own families, as well as laboring in the church. D&C 75:28-29 "And again, verily I say unto you, that every man who is obliged to provide for his own family, let him provide, and he shall in nowise lose his crown; and let him labor in the church. Let every man be diligent in all things. And the idler shall not have place in the church, except he repent and mend his ways."

In the Old Testament we read that because the people had burned incense to other gods and had not obeyed the voice of the Lord, evil would come upon them.  The Lord would punish them for their sins.  Jeremiah 44:23, 29 "Because ye have burned incense, and because ye have sinned against the Lord, and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil is happened unto you, as at this day. And this shall be a sign unto you, saith the Lord, that I will punish you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil:"

A verse with a thought booklet reminds us that the Lord gives power to the faint and increases the strength of the weak.  If we don't have the strength or energy to do what we need to do, we can seek help from the Lord.  He can also give us strength to resist temptation.  If we're willing to humble ourselves enough to admit we can't do it alone and turn to Him, He'll be there for us.  Isaiah 40:29 "He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength."
