Daily Thoughts

In the D&C we read that those who seek for signs before they have faith are not pleasing unto God. First we need to have faith, and then signs and mighty works will follow. D&C 64:7-12 "And he that seeketh signs shall see signs, but not unto salvation. Verily, I say unto you, there are those among you who seek signs, and there have been such even from the beginning; But, behold, faith cometh not by signs, but signs follow those that believe. Yea, signs come by faith, not by the will of men, nor as they please, but by the will of God. Yea, signs come by faith, unto mighty works, for without faith no man pleaseth God; and with whom God is angry he is not well pleased; wherefore, unto such he showeth no signs, only in wrath unto their condemnation. Wherefore, I, the Lord, am not pleased with those among you who have sought after signs and wonders for faith, and not for the good of men unto my glory."

In the Old Testament we read about the terrible punishments that the Lord would send forth unto the Jews because of their wickedness.  Jeremiah 15:1-4 "Then said the Lord unto me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind could not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth. And it shall come to pass, if they say unto thee, Whither shall we go forth? then thou shalt tell them, Thus saith the Lord; Such as are for death, to death; and such as are for the sword, to the sword; and such as are for the famine, to the famine; and such as are for the captivity, to the captivity. And I will appoint over them four kinds, saith the Lord: the sword to slay, and the dogs to tear, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the earth, to devour and destroy.  And I will cause them to be removed into all kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh the son of Hezekiah king of Judah, for that which he did in Jerusalem."

In some verses with a thought booklet we read that many people wanted to come see Lazarus because Jesus had raised him from the dead.  But the chief priests wanted to put Lazarus to death because many people believed in Jesus because of him.  It's difficult for me to understand why anyone would want to destroy evidence of a miracle, to prevent people from having faith.  What  causes people to fight against the work of God?  In yet, it's always been so.  There are people who want to destroy faith and prevent the work of the Lord from progressing. There are people like that even today.  Very, very sad indeed.  John 12:9-11 "Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead. But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;  Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus."
