Daily Thoughts

In the D&C we read about the inhabitants of the telestial kingdom, who did not receive the gospel of Jesus Christ nor the testimony of Jesus. They will be thrust down to hell.  The inhabitants of this kingdom are as numerable as the sands on the seashore. D&C 76:81-85, 109 "And again, we saw the glory of the telestial, which glory is that of the lesser, even as the glory of the stars differs from that of the glory of the moon in the firmament. These are they who received not the gospel of Christ, neither the testimony of Jesus. These are they who deny not the Holy Spirit. These are they who are thrust down to hell.  These are they who shall not be redeemed from the devil until the last resurrection, until the Lord, even Christ the Lamb, shall have finished his work.  But behold, and lo, we saw the glory and the inhabitants of the telestial world, that they were as innumerable as the stars in the firmament of heaven, or as the sand upon the seashore;"

In the Old Testament we read about the destruction that befalls Jerusalem because of its wickedness.  Its enemies are able to swallow it up and devour it, just as the Lord had said would happen. Both the young and the old lie on the ground in the streets, slain in the day of the Lord's anger.  Lamentations 2:15-17, 21-22 "All that pass by clap their hands at thee; they hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying, Is this the city that men call The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth? All thine enemies have opened their mouth against thee: they hiss and gnash the teeth: they say, We have swallowed her up: certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it. The Lord hath done that which he had devised; he hath fulfilled his word that he had commanded in the days of old: he hath thrown down, and hath not pitied: and he hath caused thine enemy to rejoice over thee, he hath set up the horn of thine adversaries. The young and the old lie on the ground in the streets: my virgins and my young men are fallen by the sword; thou hast slain them in the day of thine anger; thou hast killed, and not pitied. Thou hast called as in a solemn day my terrors round about, so that in the day of the Lord's anger none escaped nor remained: those that I have swaddled and brought up hath mine enemy consumed."

In the scriptures with a thought booklet we read David's words of advice to his son Solomon, telling him that he would build a house to the Lord, but that he would need to keep the commandments of the Lord.  If he would do this, the Lord would bless him to possess the good land and leave it for an inheritance to his children.  But Solomon would need to serve the Lord with a perfect heart and a wiling mind and seek Him while He may be found.  But if he would forsake the Lord, he would be cast off forever.  The Lord had chosen him to build His house.  Now he needed to be strong and do it! The Lord has a work for all of us to do.  And whatever it is we've been called to perform, we need to keep the commandments, seek the Lord, and then go forth and do the work the Lord has for us to do!  1 Chronicles 28:8-10 "Now therefore in the sight of all Israel the congregation of the Lord, and in the audience of our God, keep and seek for all the commandments of the Lord your God: that ye may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance for your children after you for ever. And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever. Take heed now; for the Lord hath chosen thee to build an house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it."
