Daily Thoughts
Sometimes people say that ignorance is bliss or that what you don't know can't hurt you. But the D&C tells us that a man cannot be saved in ignorance. So it must be important for us to study and learn the things we need to know. D&C 131:6 "It is impossible for a man to be saved in ignorance."
In the New Testament we read about how Judas betrayed Jesus in exchange for money. Jesus knew that one of His disciples would betray Him and said that it would be better for that man that he had never been born. Mark 14:10-11, 17-21 "And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them. And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him. And in the evening he cometh with the twelve. And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me. And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I? And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish. The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born."
Some scriptures with a thought booklet are a plea for understanding of God's word, and wanting the Lord to teach the way of His statues. If we understand God's law, we can keep it. A couple went to a play that they didn't really understand and wished that the author of the play was there so they could ask him to explain. Sometimes we read scriptures we don't understand. But we can turn to the author, the Lord, in prayer and ask Him to help us understand. Unlike the playwright, He is available to enlighten us and help us gain understanding. We just need to ask. Psalms 119:33-35 "Teach me, O Lord, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end. Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart. Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight."
