Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we read that those who repent and sanctify themselves before the Lord will receive eternal life. However, those who refuse to hearken to the voice of the Lord will be cut off from among the Lord's people. The proud and those who do wickedly will burn up, as in an oven. The time to repent is now! D&C 133:62-64 "And unto him that repenteth and sanctifieth himself before the Lord shall be given eternal life. And upon them that hearken not to the voice of the Lord shall be fulfilled that which was written by the prophet Moses, that they should be cut off from among the people. And also that which was written by the prophet Malachi: For, behold, the day cometh that shall burn as an oven, and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble; and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch."
In the New Testament we read about the healing of the centurion's servant. The centurian showed great humility. Others spoke highly of him, saying how he had built them a synagogue, but when Jesus came near to his house, the man told Him he was not worthy to have Jesus enter his house. He told Jesus that he had soldiers under his authority that he could command and they would do it, so likewise he wanted Jesus to heal his servant from a distance. He showed great faith and humility and Jesus did indeed make his servant whole. Luke 7:2-10 "And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die. And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant. And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this: For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue. Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof: Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed. For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick."
Some scriptures with a thought booklet tell us that we should not keep the loving kindness of the Lord to ourselves but should preach righteousness to those around us. Let's not keep the truths of the gospel hidden, but rather share our knowledge of the Lord with others. Psalms 40:9-10 "I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips, O Lord, thou knowest. I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation."
