Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that even though the Lord would send floods to destroy the wicked, Noah and his family would be saved because he would build an ark. And in the meridian of time, the Son of Righteousness would be slain for the sins of the world.  Moses 7:42-47 "And Enoch also saw Noah, and his family; that the posterity of all the sons of Noah should be saved with a temporal salvation;  Wherefore Enoch saw that Noah built an ark; and that the Lord smiled upon it, and held it in his own hand; but upon the residue of the wicked the floods came and swallowed them up. And as Enoch saw this, he had bitterness of soul, and wept over his brethren, and said unto the heavens: I will refuse to be comforted; but the Lord said unto Enoch: Lift up your heart, and be glad; and look.  And it came to pass that Enoch looked; and from Noah, he beheld all the families of the earth; and he cried unto the Lord, saying: When shall the day of the Lord come? When shall the blood of the Righteous be shed, that all they that mourn may be sanctified and have eternal life?  And the Lord said: It shall be in the meridian of time, in the days of wickedness and vengeance.  And behold, Enoch saw the day of the coming of the Son of Man, even in the flesh; and his soul rejoiced, saying: The Righteous is lifted up, and the Lamb is slain from the foundation of the world; and through faith I am in the bosom of the Father, and behold, Zion is with me."

In the New Testament we read about how Paul and Silas preached the gospel.  Some people believed what they taught, and others did not and persecuted them.  This is common down through the ages that those who try to spread the gospel or call people to repentance are often persecuted. People who want to continue with their sinful lives seem motivated to get rid of people who preach against their wickedness.  Acts 17:1-8 "Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews: And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures, Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.  And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few. But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.  And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;  Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Cæsar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus. And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things."


A verse with a thought booklet reminds us to be thankful for all the wondrous blessings that the Lord has bestowed upon us, and for His great mercy towards us. 1 Chronicles 16:34 "O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever."
