Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that the city of Enoch and all the people in it walked with God, and God received it into His own bosom, taking it up into heaven.  Moses 7:69 "And Enoch and all his people walked with God, and he dwelt in the midst of Zion; and it came to pass that Zion was not, for God received it up into his own bosom; and from thence went forth the saying, Zion is Fled."

In the New Testament we read about how even though Paul had tried to live in good conscience before God and tried to obey the Lord in preaching the gospel, he was greatly persecuted by the people.  In fact, they plotted to kill him.  Acts 23:1-2, 12 "And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.  And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth.  And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul."

Some verses with a thought booklet point out how ridiculous it is to worship idols instead of the true and living God who can help us, shield us,  and is worthy of our trust.  Idols are the works of men's hands.  They have eyes but don't see, ears but don't hear, and other useless body parts.  What good are they?  Today we don't usually worship idols, but sometimes we place other things as a higher priority than we do the Lord.  Do we have time to send text messages to our friends but neglect to take the time to pray and communicate with our Heavenly Father?  Do we have time to watch TV but n time to study the scriptures?  Do we spend endless hours playing video games but have no time to serve our fellowman? Whatever we put first in our lives, which we demonstrate by the priority we place on it, becomes the god that we worship  And if it's not the Lord that we put first, whatever we do put first doesn't really matter because it won't get us any further than worshiping the false gods that the ancients made with their own hands. If we want the Lord to help us and bless us, we need to place our trust in Him and put Him first in our lives.  Psalms 115:4-12 "Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.  They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not:  They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not: They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat. They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them.  O Israel, trust thou in the Lord: he is their help and their shield.  O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord: he is their help and their shield.  Ye that fear the Lord, trust in the Lord: he is their help and their shield. The Lord hath been mindful of us: he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron."
