Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that the works of darkness began to prevail among all the sons of men and God cursed the earth and was angry with the wicked because they would not hearken to His voice nor believe in the Only Begotten Son who would come in the meridian of time.  Moses 5:55-57 " And thus the works of darkness began to prevail among all the sons of men.  And God cursed the earth with a sore curse, and was angry with the wicked, with all the sons of men whom he had made; For they would not hearken unto his voice, nor believe on his Only Begotten Son, even him whom he declared should come in the meridian of time, who was prepared from before the foundation of the world."

In the New Testament we read that the rulers, elders, and scribes questioned Peter about by what power he had healed a lame man.  Peter bore strong testimony by the power of the Holy Ghost that he had healed the man through the name of Jesus Christ, the same Jesus whom they had crucified and whom God had raised up from the dead.  Peter then testified that salvation is only found through Jesus Christ, and through no other name can we be saved.  Acts 4:5-12 "And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes, And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.  And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?  Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;  Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.  This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."

Some verses with a thought booklet tell us that sometimes God does not speak with strong winds, fire, and earthquakes, but rather in a still, small voice.  Sometimes it's easy to miss what He's saying if we're not in tune and aren't listening carefully.  The story is told of a large family who were enjoying their Christmas together.  Suddenly, a usually quiet 8 year old girl shouted out "PASS ME THE BUTTER!!!!"  Her mother was shocked that she was so rude and sent her to her room.  Later the teenage boy who had just gotten a tape recorder for Christmas announced that he had recorded their dinner conversation and offered to play it back.  They were all surprised when they heard among the clatter of dishes and people talking, the soft little voice of the 8 year old, "Could you pass the butter, please?"  "Please pass the butter."  "I need some butter. Would someone pass it to me, please?"  Her unheeded requests grew louder and louder until finally she exploded with "PASS ME THE BUTTER!!!!" Are we sometimes like this with the Lord?  Does He speak to us in a still, small voice that we miss because we're not really listening?  And then does He sometimes have to shout at us  or take drastic measures before we'll pay attention?  1 Kings 19:11-12 "And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake:  And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice."
