Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read about how in the last days many false Christs would arise.  But if we hear about Christ coming to some secret place, we can believe it not because when He comes it will be like the light of the morning which comes out of the east and shines to the west, covering the whole earth.  Joseph Smith Matthew 1:21-26 " Behold, these things I have spoken unto you concerning the Jews; and again, after the tribulation of those days which shall come upon Jerusalem, if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there, believe him not;  For in those days there shall also arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders, insomuch, that, if possible, they shall deceive the very elect, who are the elect according to the covenant.  Behold, I speak these things unto you for the elect's sake; and you also shall hear of wars, and rumors of wars; see that ye be not troubled, for all I have told you must come to pass; but the end is not yet.  Behold, I have told you before;  Wherefore, if they shall say unto you: Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: Behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not;  For as the light of the morning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west, and covereth the whole earth, so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be."

In the New Testament we read that just as Jesus Christ was raised from the dead, we likewise shall be resurrected.  Our afflictions will be but a moment when compared to eternal glory.  2 Corinthians 4:14, 17 "Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.  For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;"

Some scriptures with a thought booklet remind us of the power of the words we speak.  They can bless those around us or they can be like deadly poison to harm them.  The story is told of a mother in a grocery store who was loudly telling everyone in earshot about how terrible her children were--criticizing and belittling them.  The children were looking ashamed and you could see that their little spirits were being crushed by their mother's harsh words.  How do we use our words--to built and lift, or to tear down?  The choice is ours.  James 3:8-10 "But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.  Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be."
