Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that Moroni told Joseph Smith about the gold plates and how they contained a fullness of the gospel.  He also told them about other things deposited with the plates.   Joseph Smith History 1:33-35 "He called me by name, and said unto me that he was a messenger sent from the presence of God to me, and that his name was Moroni; that God had a work for me to do; and that my name should be had for good and evil among all nations, kindreds, and tongues, or that it should be both good and evil spoken of among all people.  He said there was a book deposited, written upon gold plates, giving an account of the former inhabitants of this continent, and the source from whence they sprang. He also said that the fulness of the everlasting Gospel was contained in it, as delivered by the Savior to the ancient inhabitants; Also, that there were two stones in silver bows—and these stones, fastened to a breastplate, constituted what is called the Urim and Thummim—deposited with the plates; and the possession and use of these stones were what constituted "seers" in ancient or former times; and that God had prepared them for the purpose of translating the book."

In the New Testament we're told that the love of money is the root of all evil.  Notice that this says "the love of money" not money itself.  There is nothing wrong with having money if we put it to good use to help other people and provide our families with the necessities of life.  It's when we covet worldly things and place more importance on riches than we do on the things of God that we'll get our lives off track and end up with many sorrows.  If we're satisfied with having sufficient money for our needs, we'll be content.  But if we want more and more money just for the sake of accumulating wealth or acquiring  more luxuries, we'll never feel like we have enough and will never be happy with what we have.  1 Timothy 6:6-10 "But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.  For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."

A verse with a thought booklet tells us that the Lord will wait for us to come to Him so that He can show us His love and mercy and compassion and so that He can bless us.  He is waiting for us with open arms, beckoning us to come to Him. The story is told of a little boy who was careless while playing with his baseball and broke a window in the garage at his home. He left a note for his parents, "I am sorry.  I am at Jim's house.  Love, scared Matthew."  As his mother started walking toward Jim's house to retrieve him, she was thinking, "It's okay.  It was an accident.  Don't be afraid to come to me when you're scared.  You're my child.  I love you." When she saw her son, she opened up her arms and they hugged each other. We need to remember that Heavenly Father loves us, even when we mess up.  We are His child.  He will welcome us with open arms if we'll come to Him.   Isaiah 30:18 "And therefore will the Lord wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the Lord is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him."
