In the Book of Mormon we read that Nephi encouraged his brothers to continue to try to get the plates. He said the plates contained the words of the prophets and things that were vital for their children to know and they needed to take them with them. They'd been commanded to obtain the plates and Nephi refused to return to their father without them 1 Nephi 3: 15-21 "But behold I said unto them that: As the Lord liveth, and as we live, we will not go down unto our father in the wilderness until we have accomplished the thing which the Lord hath commanded us. Wherefore, let us be faithful in keeping the commandments of the Lord; therefore let us go down to the land of our father's inheritance, for behold he left gold and silver, and all manner of riches. And all this he hath done because of the commandments of the Lord. For he knew that Jerusalem must be destroyed, because of the wickedness of the people. For behold, they have rejected the words of the prophets. Wherefore, if my father should dwell in the land after he hath been commanded to flee out of the land, behold, he would also perish. Wherefore, it must needs be that he flee out of the land. And behold, it is wisdom in God that we should obtain these records, that we may preserve unto our children the language of our fathers; And also that we may preserve unto them the words which have been spoken by the mouth of all the holy prophets, which have been delivered unto them by the Spirit and power of God, since the world began, even down unto this present time. And it came to pass that after this manner of language did I persuade my brethren, that they might be faithful in keeping the commandments of God."
In the Old Testament we read the fulfillment of what the Lord promised to Abraham--Sarah bore him a son in his old age, a think which had seemed impossible to come to pass. But it did! When the Lord tells us something is going to happen, no matter how unlikely it seems, we can trust in Him that it will indeed happen. Genesis 21:1-7 "And the Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken. For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac. And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him. And Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him. And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me. And she said, Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? for I have born him a son in his old age."
A verse with a thought booklet tells us that our help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Look at the beautiful world around you--the mountains, the rivers, the flowers, the wildlife. Then ask yourself this question--if God made all of this, how can I possibly doubt that He is powerful enough to help me with whatever problems I may be facing? Psalms 121:2 "My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth."
