In the Book of Mormon we read that Lei was told by God in a dream that he should send his sons to get the brass plates from Laban. 1 Nephi 3:1-4 "And it came to pass that I, Nephi, returned from speaking with the Lord, to the tent of my father. And it came to pass that he spake unto me, saying: Behold I have dreamed a dream, in the which the Lord hath commanded me that thou and thy brethren shall return to Jerusalem. For behold, Laban hath the record of the Jews and also a genealogy of my forefathers, and they are engraven upon plates of brass. Wherefore, the Lord hath commanded me that thou and thy brothers should go unto the house of Laban, and seek the records, and bring them down hither into the wilderness."
In the Old Testament we read that the Lord told Abraham that even though he and Sarah were quite old, she would be able to bear him a son. Sarah listened at the tent door and this seemed so absurd to her that she laughed. But the Lord reminded them that nothing is too hard for Him. With God, all things are possible! Genesis 18:10-14 "And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him. Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? And the Lord said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old? Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son."
Some verses with a thought booklet tell us that we should use our liberty to choose to love and serve one another. We need to love our neighbor as ourselves, which fulfills all the law. Are we willing to put aside our own selfishness to think of the needs o others and do what we can to bless their lives? Do we look for ways to serve them? Galatians 5:13-14 " For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
