Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon w read about Lehi prophesying about the Babylonian captivity of the Jews, and how in the Lord's own due time they would be brought back out of captivity and again possess the land of their inheritance. 1 Nephi 10:2-3 "For behold, it came to pass after my father had made an end of speaking the words of his dream, and also of exhorting them to all diligence, he spake unto them concerning the Jews— That after they should be destroyed, even that great city Jerusalem, and many be carried away captive into Babylon, according to the own due time of the Lord, they should return again, yea, even be brought back out of captivity; and after they should be brought back out of captivity they should possess again the land of their inheritance."

In the Old Testament we read that the children of Israel cried out unto God because of the bondage that they suffered.  God heard them, had respect for them, and remembered the covenants that He had made to their fathers.  Exodus 2:23-25 "And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.  And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them."

Some verses with a thought booklet tell about Jesus reading from Isaiah, prophecies about preaching the gospel to the poor, healing the broken hearted, restoring sight to the blind, and setting at liberty those who are bruised.  Then Jesus closed the book and said that this day these scriptures were fulfilled.  Prophets all down through the ages prophesied of Christ and He was the fulfillment of those prophecies.  Luke 4:16-21 "And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.  And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,  To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.  And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears."
