Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read about how Nephi's brothers asked him to explain the meaning of their father's dream.  Nephi told them that the tree in the dream represented the tree of life and that the rod of iron represented the Word of God. He told them that if they would hold fast to it, they would not perish.  He exhorted them with all the energy of his soul that they would give heed to the word of God and always keep the commandments in all things.   1 Nephi 15:21-25 " And it came to pass that they did speak unto me again, saying: What meaneth this thing which our father saw in a dream? What meaneth the tree which he saw?  And I said unto them: It was a representation of the tree of life.  And they said unto me: What meaneth the rod of iron which our father saw, that led to the tree?  And I said unto them that it was the word of God; and whoso would hearken unto the word of God, and would hold fast unto it, they would never perish; neither could the temptations and the fiery darts of the adversary overpower them unto blindness, to lead them away to destruction. Wherefore, I, Nephi, did exhort them to give heed unto the word of the Lord; yea, I did exhort them with all the energies of my soul, and with all the faculty which I possessed, that they would give heed to the word of God and remember to keep his commandments always in all things."

In the Old Testament we read that Aaron made an atonement by sacrifice for himself and all Israel, as commanded by the Lord through Moses.  Leviticus 9:7 "And Moses said unto Aaron, Go unto the altar, and offer thy sin offering, and thy burnt offering, and make an atonement for thyself, and for the people: and offer the offering of the people, and make an atonement for them; as the Lord commanded."

A verse with a thought booklet reminds us that we can wise counsel for our own good and benefit, not to restrict us but that we may live n a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord.  1 Corinthians 7:35 "And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction."
