Daily Thoughts Monday

In the Book of Mormon we read that Nephi's brothers helped him build the ship, according to how the Lord instructed him to build it.  He didn't build the ship after the learning of men, but prayed often for guidance from God to know what he should do. This shows us that if we're faced with accomplishing a difficult task, we too can inquire of the Lord for help and guidance.  1 Nephi 18:1-3 "And it came to pass that they did worship the Lord, and did go forth with me; and we did work timbers of curious workmanship. And the Lord did show me from time to time after what manner I should work the timbers of the ship.  Now I, Nephi, did not work the timbers after the manner which was learned by men, neither did I build the ship after the manner of men; but I did build it after the manner which the Lord had shown unto me; wherefore, it was not after the manner of men.  And I, Nephi, did go into the mount oft, and I did pray oft unto the Lord; wherefore the Lord showed unto me great things."

In the Old Testament we read that different families of the Levites each have their own assigned duties.  Aaron and his sons were to cover the holy things in the tabernacle before travel. Then the sons of Kohath would come and bear it, but not touch any holy things. Eleazar's assignment pertained to the oil for the light and the sweet incense for the daily meat offerings. Just as in ancient days, we have our own callings and assignments as well which we need to fulfill. Maybe we're to serve in the nursery or produce the ward newsletter or to be a home or visiting teacher instead of bearing the tabernacle, but whatever we've been called to do, we need to do it.  Numbers 4:15-16 "And when Aaron and his sons have made an end of covering the sanctuary, and all the vessels of the sanctuary, as the camp is to set forward; after that, the sons of Kohath shall come to bear it: but they shall not touch any holy thing, lest they die. These things are the burden of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the congregation. And to the office of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest pertaineth the oil for the light, and the sweet incense, and the daily meat offering, and the anointing oil, and the oversight of all the tabernacle, and of all that therein is, in the sanctuary, and in the vessels thereof."

In a verse with a thought booklet we're told that if we love God, all things will work together for our good.  That's ALL things, not just the things that are pleasant and good. So if we place our trust in God, even our trials, tribulations, and difficulties will work together to strengthen us and be for our good.  Romans 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."
