Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read that cries of repentance would come forth from generations past, and the Lord would make their words strong. One would rise up who would do much good in word and deed and be an instrument in the hands of God to work mighty wonders and bring to pass much restoration unto the house of Israel. In Lehi's dying words, he admonished his son Joseph to remember his words and hearken to his brother Nephi.  2 Nephi 3:20-25 "And they shall cry from the dust; yea, even repentance unto their brethren, even after many generations have gone by them. And it shall come to pass that their cry shall go, even according to the simpleness of their words.  Because of their faith their words shall proceed forth out of my mouth unto their brethren who are the fruit of thy loins; and the weakness of their words will I make strong in their faith, unto the remembering of my covenant which I made unto thy fathers.  And now, behold, my son Joseph, after this manner did my father of old prophesy.  Wherefore, because of this covenant thou art blessed; for thy seed shall not be destroyed, for they shall hearken unto the words of the book.  And there shall rise up one mighty among them, who shall do much good, both in word and in deed, being an instrument in the hands of God, with exceeding faith, to work mighty wonders, and do that thing which is great in the sight of God, unto the bringing to pass much restoration unto the house of Israel, and unto the seed of thy brethren. And now, blessed art thou, Joseph. Behold, thou art little; wherefore hearken unto the words of thy brother, Nephi, and it shall be done unto thee even according to the words which I have spoken. Remember the words of thy dying father. Amen."

In the Old Testament we read that we should hearken to the voice of the Lord, keep His commandments, and do that which is right in the eyes of the Lord.  Deuteronomy 13:18 "When thou shalt hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, to do that which is right in the eyes of the Lord thy God."

In some scriptures with a thought booklet we read that Jesus, at times, separated Himself from other people so He could enjoy peace and solitude and be able to commune with His Father by Himself.  If this was necessary for Jesus, we can know that it is also necessary for us.  We need to take time to be alone and pray.  Matthew 14:13, 23 "When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities. And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone."
