Daily Thughts

In the Book of Mormon we read some of the words of Jacob, Nephi's younger brother. He recounted to them some of the Jewish history and read to them from Isaiah. He told them that they are of the House of Israel and the words which Isaiah spoke could be likened unto them.  2 Nephi 6:1-5 "The words of Jacob, the brother of Nephi, which he spake unto the people of Nephi: Behold, my beloved brethren, I, Jacob, having been called of God, and ordained after the manner of his holy order, and having been consecrated by my brother Nephi, unto whom ye look as a king or a protector, and on whom ye depend for safety, behold ye know that I have spoken unto you exceedingly many things. Nevertheless, I speak unto you again; for I am desirous for the welfare of your souls. Yea, mine anxiety is great for you; and ye yourselves know that it ever has been. For I have exhorted you with all diligence; and I have taught you the words of my father; and I have spoken unto you concerning all things which are written, from the creation of the world. And now, behold, I would speak unto you concerning things which are, and which are to come; wherefore, I will read you the words of Isaiah. And they are the words which my brother has desired that I should speak unto you. And I speak unto you for your sakes, that ye may learn and glorify the name of your God.  And now, the words which I shall read are they which Isaiah spake concerning all the house of Israel; wherefore, they may be likened unto you, for ye are of the house of Israel. And there are many things which have been spoken by Isaiah which may be likened unto you, because ye are of the house of Israel."

In the Old Testament we read that Moses was able to see the promised land but was not allowed to go there. And then he died. You'll recall that only Joshua and Caleb gave good reports about the promised land and had the faith to want to immediately go there.  So the Lord made Israel wander in the wilderness for 40 years until all those who were rebellious had died off and only Joshua and Caleb would be left among the old timers.  Deuteronomy 34:4-5 "And the Lord said unto him, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither. So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord."

Some verses with a thought booklet tell us that we can cry unto the Lord during our times of trouble, and He will bring us out of our distress. He calms the storms in our lives and makes the waves still.  We can have joy and gladness because He brings us to our desired haven.  Psalms 107:28-30 "Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.  He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven."
