Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read that the Lord will lift up an ensign and gather Israel.  2 Nephi 15:26-30 "And he will lift up an ensign to the nations from far, and will hiss unto them from the end of the earth; and behold, they shall come with speed swiftly; none shall be weary nor stumble among them. None shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the latchet of their shoes be broken; Whose arrows shall be sharp, and all their bows bent, and their horses' hoofs shall be counted like flint, and their wheels like a whirlwind, their roaring like a lion. They shall roar like young lions; yea, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, and shall carry away safe, and none shall deliver.  And in that day they shall roar against them like the roaring of the sea; and if they look unto the land, behold, darkness and sorrow, and the light is darkened in the heavens thereof."

In the Old Testament we read about how Samuel warned the people that they should not have a king, but they refused to listen to him.  They insisted that they wanted to be like the other nations and have a king.  So Samuel prayed to the Lord, telling Him what the people had said and the Lord said, okay, let them have it their way.  Give them a king.  Sometimes we are like those people.  The Lord tells us what will be good for us and we don't like His answer, insisting things go the way we want, not the way the Lord knows is best.  So the Lord will sometimes give us what we think we want and it' only later that we realize it really wasn't for our best good.  We should have listened to the Lord.  We need to take no for an answer, especially when that "no" comes from God.  1 Samuel 8:19-22 "Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;  That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.  And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of the Lord.  And the Lord said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city."

A verse with a thought booklet tells us that every good gift comes from God.  When we receive blessings or things seem to go right for us, do we sometimes think that it was "good luck" or a coincidence?  Instead, we need to be grateful to the Lord and giving Him thanks in our prayers.  All the blessings in our lives come from Him.  James 1:17 "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."
