Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read more of the conversation between Jacob and Sherem.  Jacob asked Sherem if he believed the scriptures, which he said he did. But then Jacob pointed out that the scriptures are full of prophesies from all the prophets testifying of Christ. Indeed, without the atonement of Jesus Christ all mankind would be lost.   Jacob 7:9-12 "And I said unto him: Deniest thou the Christ who shall come? And he said: If there should be a Christ, I would not deny him; but I know that there is no Christ, neither has been, nor ever will be. And I said unto him: Believest thou the scriptures? And he said, Yea.  And I said unto him: Then ye do not understand them; for they truly testify of Christ. Behold, I say unto you that none of the prophets have written, nor prophesied, save they have spoken concerning this Christ.  And this is not all—it has been made manifest unto me, for I have heard and seen; and it also has been made manifest unto me by the power of the Holy Ghost; wherefore, I know if there should be no atonement made all mankind must be lost."

In the Old Testament we read that Jehoshaphat sought the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout Judah.  All Judah came together to seek the Lord.  Even in ancient days, fasting was a way to seek the Lord.  2 Chronicles 20:3-4 "And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the Lord: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord."

A verse with a thought booklet tell us that we are a chosen generation, a peculiar people, who have been called out of darkness into His marvelous light.  As the world becomes an increasingly wicked place, full of darkness, we might be considered "peculiar" if we choose to keep the commandments of God.  But following His Light and showing praise for God is the right thing to do, and what will please Him.  1 Peter 2:9 "But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:"
