Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read that after Sherem died the power of God came upon the people to the point that they were overcome and fell to the earth.  This was an answer to Jacob's prayers and the love of God was restored among the people. They studied the scriptures and no longer hearkened to what the wicked Sherem had taught them.   Jacob 7: 21-23 " And when the multitude had witnessed that he spake these things as he was about to give up the ghost, they were astonished exceedingly; insomuch that the power of God came down upon them, and they were overcome that they fell to the earth.  Now, this thing was pleasing unto me, Jacob, for I had requested it of my Father who was in heaven; for he had heard my cry and answered my prayer.  And it came to pass that peace and the love of God was restored again among the people; and they searched the scriptures, and hearkened no more to the words of this wicked man."

In the Old Testament we read about how the people covenanted to be the people of the Lord broke down the altars of Baal, killing his priest.  True worship of the Lord was restored.  It's interesting how often the people went from from wickedness to righteousness, but then, unfortunately, went back to wickedness again--in a seemingly unending cycle. 2 Chronicles 23:16-19 "And Jehoiada made a covenant between him, and between all the people, and between the king, that they should be the Lord's people.  Then all the people went to the house of Baal, and brake it down, and brake his altars and his images in pieces, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.  Also Jehoiada appointed the offices of the house of the Lord by the hand of the priests the Levites, whom David had distributed in the house of the Lord, to offer the burnt offerings of the Lord, as it is written in the law of Moses, with rejoicing and with singing, as it was ordained by David.  And he set the porters at the gates of the house of the Lord, that none which was unclean in any thing should enter in."

Some scriptures with a thought booklet tell us two are better than one.  If two people are together and one of them falls, the other one can help him up.  But if a man is alone when he falls, no one is around to help him.  We need each other, and need to be willing to help those around us.  Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 "Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.  For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up."
