In the Book of Mormon we read that Amaron wrote on the plates after he got them from his father. He told about the destruction of the more wicked pat of the Nephites. The Lord had warned he people that if they would not keep the commandments, they would not prosper n the land. And His words were fulfilled in allowing the wicked to be destroyed, but He spared the more righteous people. Then Amaron delivered the plates to his brother Chemish. Omni 1:4-8 "And now I, Amaron, write the things whatsoever I write, which are few, in the book of my father. Behold, it came to pass that three hundred and twenty years had passed away, and the more wicked part of the Nephites were destroyed. For the Lord would not suffer, after he had led them out of the land of Jerusalem and kept and preserved them from falling into the hands of their enemies, yea, he would not suffer that the words should not be verified, which he spake unto our fathers, saying that: Inasmuch as ye will not keep my commandments ye shall not prosper in the land. Wherefore, the Lord did visit them in great judgment; nevertheless, he did spare the righteous that they should not perish, but did deliver them out of the hands of their enemies. And it came to pass that I did deliver the plates unto my brother Chemish."
In the Old Testament we again read about "preparing our hearts" to seek the Lord and His commandments. In this case it was Ezra who prepared his heart, so that he could do the will of the Lord and teach others as well. Ezra 7:10 "For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments."
A verse with a thought booklet tells us that the Lord will show us the path to take, and in His presence we will find a fullness of joy and everlasting happiness. Psalms 16:11 "Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore."
