Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read King Laman had deceived Zeniff with his fair promises, lying and craftiness and his people suffered many years as a result. But Zeniff caused that his people should go against the Lamanites to battle and with the Lord's help they again prevailed.  His people again attended to their flocks and tilled the ground. Zeniff grew old and conferred his kingdom onto one of his sons. Mosiah 10:18-22 " For this very cause has king Laman, by his cunning, and lying craftiness, and his fair promises, deceived me, that I have brought this my people up into this land, that they may destroy them; yea, and we have suffered these many years in the land.  And now I, Zeniff, after having told all these things unto my people concerning the Lamanites, I did stimulate them to go to battle with their might, putting their trust in the Lord; therefore, we did contend with them, face to face.  And it came to pass that we did drive them again out of our land; and we slew them with a great slaughter, even so many that we did not number them.  And it came to pass that we returned again to our own land, and my people again began to tend their flocks, and to till their ground.  And now I, being old, did confer the kingdom upon one of my sons; therefore, I say no more. And may the Lord bless my people. Amen."

In the Old Testament we read that those who are humble and righteous and who turn to the Lord are comforted and helped.  They are delivered from their fears and troubles. They may have many afflictions, but the Lord will deliver them from them.   Psalms 34:4-6, 17-19 "I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.  They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.  This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.  The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.  Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all."

A scripture with a thought booklet tells us that hose who walk in the light of the Lord's countenance will be blessed and joyful. Psalms 89:15 "Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance."
