In the Book of Mormon we read that whoever was baptized was added to the church. Alma ordained priests to teach the people, one priest for every 50 people. Alma said that they should teach nothing but faith and repentance and that there should be no contention among them. Their hearts should be knit together in unity and love. They became the children of God. Mosiah 18:17-22 "And they were called the church of God, or the church of Christ, from that time forward. And it came to pass that whosoever was baptized by the power and authority of God was added to his church. And it came to pass that Alma, having authority from God, ordained priests; even one priest to every fifty of their number did he ordain to preach unto them, and to teach them concerning the things pertaining to the kingdom of God. And he commanded them that they should teach nothing save it were the things which he had taught, and which had been spoken by the mouth of the holy prophets. Yea, even he commanded them that they should preach nothing save it were repentance and faith on the Lord, who had redeemed his people. And he commanded them that there should be no contention one with another, but that they should look forward with one eye, having one faith and one baptism, having their hearts knit together in unity and in love one towards another. And thus he commanded them to preach. And thus they became the children of God."
In the Old Testament we read that those who trust in the Lord will be blessed. The Lord does good to those who are upright in heart, and He brings them peace. However, the wicked shall not have place with the righteous and those who turn aside to crooked ways will be lead forth with the workers of iniquity. Psalms 125:1-5 "They that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever. As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord is round about his people from henceforth even for ever. For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity. Do good, O Lord, unto those that be good, and to them that are upright in their hearts. As for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the Lord shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity: but peace shall be upon Israel."
Some scriptures with a thought booklet warn us to take heed, lest there be in any of s an evil heart of unbelief, departing from the living God. We need to exhort one another every day, to avoid becoming hardened through sin. Hebrews 3:12-13 "Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin."
