Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read that Ammon sorrowed because so many of his brethren had been slain, and also because Noah and his priests had caused the people to commit so many sins against God. He also mourned the death of Abinidi and that Alma and his followers had had to flee. They wished they could join them, since they had now entered into a covenant with God o keep His commandments and serve Him. They desired to be baptized, but there was no one authorized to baptize them at that time.   Mosiah 21:29-36 "Yet Ammon and his brethren were filled with sorrow because so many of their brethren had been slain;  And also that king Noah and his priests had caused the people to commit so many sins and iniquities against God; and they also did mourn for the death of Abinadi; and also for the departure of Alma and the people that went with him, who had formed a church of God through the strength and power of God, and faith on the words which had been spoken by Abinadi.  Yea, they did mourn for their departure, for they knew not whither they had fled. Now they would have gladly joined with them, for they themselves had entered into a covenant with God to serve him and keep his commandments. And now since the coming of Ammon, king Limhi had also entered into a covenant with God, and also many of his people, to serve him and keep his commandments. And it came to pass that king Limhi and many of his people were desirous to be baptized; but there was none in the land that had authority from God. And Ammon declined doing this thing, considering himself an unworthy servant.  Therefore they did not at that time form themselves into a church, waiting upon the Spirit of the Lord. Now they were desirous to become even as Alma and his brethren, who had fled into the wilderness.  They were desirous to be baptized as a witness and a testimony that they were willing to serve God with all their hearts; nevertheless they did prolong the time; and an account of their baptism shall be given hereafter. And now all the study of Ammon and his people, and king Limhi and his people, was to deliver themselves out of the hands of the Lamanites and from bondage."

In the Old Testament we read that being slow to anger is better than being mighty.  And it is more important to rule your own spirit than to take a whole city.  Proverbs 16:32 "He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city."

A scripture with a thought booklet tells us that if we have faith, nothing is impossible, even moving mountains.  This doesn't necessarily mean moving literal mountains (although if there was a purpose for it, the Lord could make that happen), but it can also mean anything that is an obstacle to us or can seem like a mountain in our way.  When we focus on God--not on the mountain--God will empower us to do whatever we need to do.  Matthew 17:20 "And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you."
