Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read that Limhi listened to Gideon's advice and the people were able to sneak out of the city while the guards were drunk.  They were able to travel to Zarahemla and join Mosiah's people there who rejoiced to receive them, and their records.  Mosiah 22:9-16 "And it came to pass that the king hearkened unto the words of Gideon.  And king Limhi caused that his people should gather their flocks together; and he sent the tribute of wine to the Lamanites; and he also sent more wine, as a present unto them; and they did drink freely of the wine which king Limhi did send unto them.  And it came to pass that the people of king Limhi did depart by night into the wilderness with their flocks and their herds, and they went round about the land of Shilom in the wilderness, and bent their course towards the land of Zarahemla, being led by Ammon and his brethren.  And they had taken all their gold, and silver, and their precious things, which they could carry, and also their provisions with them, into the wilderness; and they pursued their journey.  And after being many days in the wilderness they arrived in the land of Zarahemla, and joined Mosiah's people, and became his subjects.  And it came to pass that Mosiah received them with joy; and he also received their records, and also the records which had been found by the people of Limhi.  And now it came to pass when the Lamanites had found that the people of Limhi had departed out of the land by night, that they sent an army into the wilderness to pursue them;  And after they had pursued them two days, they could no longer follow their tracks; therefore they were lost in the wilderness."

In the Old Testament we read that even a fool, when he holds his peace, is counted as wise.  It's important to know when to keep quiet.  Proverbs 17:28 "Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding."

A verse with a thought booklet tells us that the Lord knows our longings and even our groanings are not hidden from Him.  He sees and understands what we're going through, even when it may not be apparent to us.  Sometimes we may feel like our prayers are going unheard, but that is not the case.  The story is told of a young mother whose 5 year old son woke up very early before dawn and wanted to be taken to the park to play.  She knew that he had not gotten enough sleep and would be tired and cranky if he didn't go back to sleep.  So she put him back in bed, in spite of his crying and a big temper tantrum.  She stood outside his room listening to every single one of his heartbreaking cries until he finally settled down and went back to sleep.  His mother knew what was best for him, even if he himself did not.  This is similar to our Heavenly Father who stands listening to all our anguished cries, but acts in our best interests even when we ourselves don't know what they are.  Psalms 38:9 "Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee."
