In the Book of Mormon we read that the results of the election caused the people against Amlici to rejoice, but the people who were for him were angry. They got together and consecrated Amlici to be their king, in spite of the election results. The Amlicites fought against the Nephites who were the people of God, and began to make war against them. Alma 2:8-15 "Now this did cause much joy in the hearts of those who were against him; but Amlici did stir up those who were in his favor to anger against those who were not in his favor. And it came to pass that they gathered themselves together, and did consecrate Amlici to be their king. Now when Amlici was made king over them he commanded them that they should take up arms against their brethren; and this he did that he might subject them to him. Now the people of Amlici were distinguished by the name of Amlici, being called Amlicites; and the remainder were called Nephites, or the people of God. Therefore the people of the Nephites were aware of the intent of the Amlicites, and therefore they did prepare to meet them; yea, they did arm themselves with swords, and with cimeters, and with bows, and with arrows, and with stones, and with slings, and with all manner of weapons of war, of every kind. And thus they were prepared to meet the Amlicites at the time of their coming. And there were appointed captains, and higher captains, and chief captains, according to their numbers. And it came to pass that Amlici did arm his men with all manner of weapons of war of every kind; and he also appointed rulers and leaders over his people, to lead them to war against their brethren. And it came to pass that the Amlicites came upon the hill Amnihu, which was east of the river Sidon, which ran by the land of Zarahemla, and there they began to make war with the Nephites."
In the Old Testament we read that the Lord is our God, our Redeemer who leads us the way we should go. If we hearken to His commandments, we'll find peace and righteousness in abundance. There is no peace unto the wicked. Isaiah 48:17-18, 22 "Thus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the Lord thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go. O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea: There is no peace, saith the Lord, unto the wicked."
Some verses with a thought booklet, go right along with this, talk about setting the Lord always before us and having Him always on our right hand. If we do this we will not be moved and will experience joy and gladness, and we'll rest in hope. The Lord will show us the path of life to take where we can be in His presence in a fullness of joy for evermore. Psalms 16:8-11 "I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore."
