In the Book of Mormon we read that Alma caused a multitude to be gathered together to witness what the Lord had done for his son and those who were with him. He asked the priests to fast and pray that his son would receive strength and be able to speak. After two days and nights of fasting and prayer, Alma the Younger was able to address the people and tell them to be of good comfort. Mosiah 27: 21-23 "And he caused that a multitude should be gathered together that they might witness what the Lord had done for his son, and also for those that were with him. And he caused that the priests should assemble themselves together; and they began to fast, and to pray to the Lord their God that he would open the mouth of Alma, that he might speak, and also that his limbs might receive their strength—that the eyes of the people might be opened to see and know of the goodness and glory of God. And it came to pass after they had fasted and prayed for the space of two days and two nights, the limbs of Alma received their strength, and he stood up and began to speak unto them, bidding them to be of good comfort:"
In the Old Testament we read a prophecy that a virgin would conceive and bear a son and call Him Immanuel. This was fulfilled in the birth of Jesus Christ, hundreds of years later. Isaiah 7:14 "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel."
Some scriptures with a thought booklet talks about how Jesus would return to His Father and His disciples would grieve for Him, but then they would see Him again and they would rejoice. Sorrow and mourning would be turned into joy. When we lose a loved one we can feel such grief that we don't know if we'll ever feel good again. But we can trust in the Lord that we will see that loved one again and our sorrow will turn to gladness. There is hope. John 16:16-21 "A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father. Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father? They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith. Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye inquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me? Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world."
