Daily Thoughts Monday

In the Book of Mormon we read that Alma went forth preaching the word of God to the people. He reminded them that his father had established the church and baptized people who had been delivered out of the hands of king Noah, by the mercy and power of God. And after that they were delivered out of bondage to the Lamanites. Alma 5:1-5 "Now it came to pass that Alma began to deliver the word of God unto the people, first in the land of Zarahemla, and from thence throughout all the land. And these are the words which he spake to the people in the church which was established in the city of Zarahemla, according to his own record, saying:  I, Alma, having been consecrated by my father, Alma, to be a high priest over the church of God, he having power and authority from God to do these things, behold, I say unto you that he began to establish a church in the land which was in the borders of Nephi; yea, the land which was called the land of Mormon; yea, and he did baptize his brethren in the waters of Mormon.  And behold, I say unto you, they were delivered out of the hands of the people of king Noah, by the mercy and power of God.  And behold, after that, they were brought into bondage by the hands of the Lamanites in the wilderness; yea, I say unto you, they were in captivity, and again the Lord did deliver them out of bondage by the power of his word; and we were brought into this land, and here we began to establish the church of God throughout this land also."

In the Old Testament we read the Lord's words to Jeremiah.  He told Jeremiah that even before he was conceived, He knew him and foreordained him to be a prophet.  We all lived before we were born on this earth, and the Lord knew every one of us and knew what callings we were to have.  He knew what each of us was to accomplish in our lives and what He wanted us to do.  Not only that, but He will help us achieve what we are to do.  In the case of Jeremiah, Jeremiah felt inadequate to speak, but the Lord told him that there was nothing to fear for He would put the words in his mouth that he was to say.  He will likewise help every one of us fulfill the callings we've been called to do.  Jeremiah 1:4-8 "Then the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Then said I, Ah, Lord God! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child. But the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.  Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord."

Some scriptures with a thought booklet remind us that when we are heavy laden, we need to come to the Lord who will give us rest.  In Him we can find rest to our souls.  Matthew 11:28-30 "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
