Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read that after Alma had set in order the church in Zarahelma he went to Gidion to preach.  Alma 6:7-8 "And now it came to pass that when Alma had made these regulations he departed from them, yea, from the church which was in the city of Zarahemla, and went over upon the east of the river Sidon, into the valley of Gideon, there having been a city built, which was called the city of Gideon, which was in the valley that was called Gideon, being called after the man who was slain by the hand of Nehor with the sword. And Alma went and began to declare the word of God unto the church which was established in the valley of Gideon, according to the revelation of the truth of the word which had been spoken by his fathers, and according to the spirit of prophecy which was in him, according to the testimony of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who should come to redeem his people from their sins, and the holy order by which he was called. And thus it is written. Amen."

In the Old Testament we read that the Lord said that those who would not hear His words would become a desolation. Those who worship other gods and forsake their covenants will be punished.  Jeremiah 22:5-9 "But if ye will not hear these words, I swear by myself, saith the Lord, that this house shall become a desolation.  For thus saith the Lord unto the king's house of Judah; Thou art Gilead unto me, and the head of Lebanon: yet surely I will make thee a wilderness, and cities which are not inhabited.  And I will prepare destroyers against thee, every one with his weapons: and they shall cut down thy choice cedars, and cast them into the fire. And many nations shall pass by this city, and they shall say every man to his neighbour, Wherefore hath the Lord done thus unto this great city? Then they shall answer, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord their God, and worshipped other gods, and served them."

A verse with a thought booklet tells us that the Spirit itself ears witness to us that we are the children of God.  Knowing who we are, knowing our true identity as sons and daughters of God, can make all the difference in our lives. We can understand our great worth and know that our Heavenly Father loves us.  Romans 8:16 "The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:"
