In the Book of Mormon we read that as Alma entered the city of Ammonihah he asked a man for something to eat. The man, Amulek, had already been told by an angel that Alma was coming, and invited him to his house for something to eat. Often when we're on the Lord's errand, He'll send people to help us. When that happens, we need to do what Alma did, and give the Lord our thanks. Alma 8:19-22 "And as he entered the city he was an hungered, and he said to a man: Will ye give to an humble servant of God something to eat? And the man said unto him: I am a Nephite, and I know that thou art a holy prophet of God, for thou art the man whom an angel said in a vision: Thou shalt receive. Therefore, go with me into my house and I will impart unto thee of my food; and I know that thou wilt be a blessing unto me and my house. And it came to pass that the man received him into his house; and the man was called Amulek; and he brought forth bread and meat and set before Alma. And it came to pass that Alma ate bread and was filled; and he blessed Amulek and his house, and he gave thanks unto God."
In the Old Testament we read that Jeremiah the prophet prophesied that Egypt would not sava Judah from Babylon. Indeed, if we have the Lord on our side, we can trust that we'll be safe against any enemy, but if we don't have the Lord on our side, it doesn't matter who else is for us, it won't do us any good. Jeremiah 37:6-10 "Then came the word of the Lord unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to inquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh's army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land. And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire. Thus saith the Lord; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart. For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire."
Some scriptures with a thought booklet give us Paul's words that he has fought a good fight and finished his course, keeping the faith. So there would be laid up for him a crown of righteousness. And this was not only true of Paul, but likewise will be true for all of us who love the Lord. If we endure to the end, we will receive our reward. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 " I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."
