Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read that as Amulek was traveling to see a relative, an angel of the Lord had appeared unto him and told him that a prophet of God would be coming to his house and that he should feed him and receive him.  If he did this, he would be blessed.  Amulek received Alma into his house and knew that he was a man of God because an angel had testified of this fact. Likewise, he knew the words that Alma spake were true. He said he had been blessed, as had his family, according to the words of the angel.  Alma 10:7-11 "As I was journeying to see a very near kindred, behold an angel of the Lord appeared unto me and said: Amulek, return to thine own house, for thou shalt feed a prophet of the Lord; yea, a holy man, who is a chosen man of God; for he has fasted many days because of the sins of this people, and he is an hungered, and thou shalt receive him into thy house and feed him, and he shall bless thee and thy house; and the blessing of the Lord shall rest upon thee and thy house.  And it came to pass that I obeyed the voice of the angel, and returned towards my house. And as I was going thither I found the man whom the angel said unto me: Thou shalt receive into thy house—and behold it was this same man who has been speaking unto you concerning the things of God.  And the angel said unto me he is a holy man; wherefore I know he is a holy man because it was said by an angel of God.  And again, I know that the things whereof he hath testified are true; for behold I say unto you, that as the Lord liveth, even so has he sent his angel to make these things manifest unto me; and this he has done while this Alma hath dwelt at my house. For behold, he hath blessed mine house, he hath blessed me, and my women, and my children, and my father and my kinsfolk; yea, even all my kindred hath he blessed, and the blessing of the Lord hath rested upon us according to the words which he spake."

In the Old Testament we read the lamentations of Jeremiah over the miserable condition of Jerusalem, which came about as punishment because of the wickedness of the people.  Lamentations 1:1, 5, 8-11, 20-22 "How doth the city sit solitary, that was full of people! how is she become as a widow! she that was great among the nations, and princess among the provinces, how is she become tributary! Her adversaries are the chief, her enemies prosper; for the Lord hath afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions: her children are gone into captivity before the enemy. Jerusalem hath grievously sinned; therefore she is removed: all that honoured her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness: yea, she sigheth, and turneth backward. Her filthiness is in her skirts; she remembereth not her last end; therefore she came down wonderfully: she had no comforter. O Lord, behold my affliction: for the enemy hath magnified himself. The adversary hath spread out his hand upon all her pleasant things: for she hath seen that the heathen entered into her sanctuary, whom thou didst command that they should not enter into thy congregation. All her people sigh, they seek bread; they have given their pleasant things for meat to relieve the soul: see, O Lord, and consider; for I am become vile. Behold, O Lord; for I am in distress: my bowels are troubled; mine heart is turned within me; for I have grievously rebelled: abroad the sword bereaveth, at home there is as death.  They have heard that I sigh: there is none to comfort me: all mine enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that thou hast done it: thou wilt bring the day that thou hast called, and they shall be like unto me.  Let all their wickedness come before thee; and do unto them, as thou hast done unto me for all my transgressions: for my sighs are many, and my heart is faint."

Some verses with a thought booklet are just what we need to hear if we are worried or troubled.  They instruct us not to be unduly concerned about anything, but in everything come to God in prayer and with supplication and thanksgiving, make our requests known to God.  By doing this, the peace of God will keep our minds and hearts through Jesus Christ.  So when we find ourselves worrying (which I often do) we need to keep our minds centered on Jesus Christ and pray to our Heavenly Father, thanking Him for all our blessings and asking Him to help us with what we need.  Philippians 4:6-7 "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
