Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read that the Zoramites had had the word of God preached to them at one time, but they had fallen into great errors and were not keeping the commandments. They were not praying daily to avoid temptation and were perverting the ways of the Lord in many instances. So Alma and his brethren went to preach to them.  Alma 31:8-11 "Now the Zoramites were dissenters from the Nephites; therefore they had had the word of God preached unto them. But they had fallen into great errors, for they would not observe to keep the commandments of God, and his statutes, according to the law of Moses.  Neither would they observe the performances of the church, to continue in prayer and supplication to God daily, that they might not enter into temptation.  Yea, in fine, they did pervert the ways of the Lord in very many instances; therefore, for this cause, Alma and his brethren went into the land to preach the word unto them."

In the New Testament we read that Jesus proclaimed the gospel, delivering the message that now is the time for God's Kingdom to come and for us to repent and believe.  Mark 1:14-15 "Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,  And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel."

Some verses with a thought booklet tell us that when Joseph had two sons, he gave them names to indicate that he had forgotten the trouble in his father's house (his brothers had sold him into slavery) and God had caused him to be fruitful in the land of his affliction (even after being sold into slavery and cast into prison for something he didn't do, he had eventually been blessed by being made second in command to Pharoh). After all that had happened to him, Joseph could have been angry and bitter.  Instead he choose to look for the good in his life with gratitude. He chose to see the blessings.  Genesis 41:50-52 "And unto Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, which Asenath the daughter of Poti-pherah priest of On bare unto him.  And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God, said he, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house. And the name of the second called he Ephraim: For God hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction."
