Daily Thoughts

In the Book of Mormon we read that Alma admonished Corianton to repent of his sins and forsake them. He should take counsel from his brothers and not allow his heart to be lead away by Satan. Because he had allowed his heart to be lead away, the Zormanites saw his wickedness and some of them refused to believe in the word of God because of it. Alma told Corianton that he needed to turn from his wickedness and refrain from his iniquities. He needed to turn to the Lord with all his heart. Alma 39:9-13 "Now my son, I would that ye should repent and forsake your sins, and go no more after the lusts of your eyes, but cross yourself in all these things; for except ye do this ye can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God. Oh, remember, and take it upon you, and cross yourself in these things.  And I command you to take it upon you to counsel with your elder brothers in your undertakings; for behold, thou art in thy youth, and ye stand in need to be nourished by your brothers. And give heed to their counsel. Suffer not yourself to be led away by any vain or foolish thing; suffer not the devil to lead away your heart again after those wicked harlots. Behold, O my son, how great iniquity ye brought upon the Zoramites; for when they saw your conduct they would not believe in my words.  And now the Spirit of the Lord doth say unto me: Command thy children to do good, lest they lead away the hearts of many people to destruction; therefore I command you, my son, in the fear of God, that ye refrain from your iniquities;  That ye turn to the Lord with all your mind, might, and strength; that ye lead away the hearts of no more to do wickedly; but rather return unto them, and acknowledge your faults and that wrong which ye have done."

In the New Testament we read that the day will come when all those who have died will hear the voice of the Lord.  Those who have done good will receive the resurrection of life, but those who have done wickedly will receive the resurrection of judgment.  John 5:28-29 "Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,  And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation."

Some verses with a thought booklet tell us that if we truly love God, we will also love others.  If we say we love God but hate our brother, we are liars.  How can a person not love his brother that he has seen, but love God that he has not seen?  1 John 4:20-21 "If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?  And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also."
