In the Book of Mormon we read that the Lamanites fought fiercely, having been inspired to anger by the Zoramites and Amalekites and wanting to obtain power. But the Nephites were inspired by a better cause, fighting to protect their homes, their liberty, their families, and their rights to worship their God. The Lord had told them they were justified in fighting to defend their families and as long as they were not guilty of attacking first or second, they did not need to stand by and allow themselves to be slain by the hand of their enemies. Alma 43:43-47 "Now in this case the Lamanites did fight exceedingly; yea, never had the Lamanites been known to fight with such exceedingly great strength and courage, no, not even from the beginning. And they were inspired by the Zoramites and the Amalekites, who were their chief captains and leaders, and by Zerahemnah, who was their chief captain, or their chief leader and commander; yea, they did fight like dragons, and many of the Nephites were slain by their hands, yea, for they did smite in two many of their head-plates, and they did pierce many of their breastplates, and they did smite off many of their arms; and thus the Lamanites did smite in their fierce anger. Nevertheless, the Nephites were inspired by a better cause, for they were not fighting for monarchy nor power but they were fighting for their homes and their liberties, their wives and their children, and their all, yea, for their rites of worship and their church. And they were doing that which they felt was the duty which they owed to their God; for the Lord had said unto them, and also unto their fathers, that: Inasmuch as ye are not guilty of the first offense, neither the second, ye shall not suffer yourselves to be slain by the hands of your enemies. And again, the Lord has said that: Ye shall defend your families even unto bloodshed. Therefore for this cause were the Nephites contending with the Lamanites, to defend themselves, and their families, and their lands, their country, and their rights, and their religion."
In the New Testament we read that the council members were furious and wanted to kill the apostles. One council member who was well respected by the people stood up and asked the council members to consider carefully what they intended to do to those people. He reminded them of other people who had come teaching the people in the past and who had gained quite a following. But eventually their followers scattered and they were forgotten. He recommended that they distance themselves from these men. If their activity is of human origin, it will end in ruin. But if originates with God, nothing they could do would be able to stop it. Instead, they would find themselves fighting God. The council was convinced by his reasoning. The apostles were ordered again not to speak of Jesus and allowed to go. The apostles rejoiced, and continued to teach of Jesus, both in the temple and in the houses. Acts 5:33-42 "When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them. Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space; And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men. For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought. After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed. And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God. And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name. And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ."
In a verse with a thought booklet we're told that if well have faith even as a grain of mustard seed, we can move mountains. Indeed, with God, nothing is impossible. Matthew 17:20 "And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you."
